Graduate Teaching Assistant
About the Role
Milk Education are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including ASC, ADHD and SEMH, within a specialist school setting.
This role is ideal for recent graduates considering a career in education, educational psychology, or therapy-based professions. You will gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop social skills, and build independence.
Previous experience is not required—we are looking for individuals with a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for working with children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
2. Support the delivery of personalised learning in line with EHCP targets
3. Assist the class teacher and SENCO in adapting lessons to meet individual needs
4. Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning
5. Support pupils with social interaction, communication, and life skills
6. Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals, including therapists
Requirements
7. A degree in any subject (Education, Psychology, Sociology or related fields desirable)
8. A strong interest in pursuing a career in education, child development, or mental health
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
10. A proactive, patient, and resilient approach
11. Willingness to learn and develop within an SEN setting
12. Experience working with children, young people, or in care/support roles is advantageous but not essential
Essential Checks & Certificates
13. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
14. Right to work in the UK
15. Two satisfactory references
16. Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete prior to start)
