Experienced GP Practice Receptionist Care Navigator

We are a friendly and busy NHS GP Practice in Beckenham seeking a Part-time Receptionist to join our team.

We require a Medical Receptionist Care Navigator with initiative, drive, strong interpersonal, admin, and IT skills.

Previous reception/admin and/or customer service skills are desirable. Join our happy and dedicated team providing quality care to a diverse population.

You will need to be a good communicator, fluent in English, both written and spoken, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, especially under pressure.

You will have a range of patient-facing and administrative tasks, so excellent organisational skills and time management are critical. A caring, empathetic character is essential.

Experience of using Emis Web and working in a GP practice is preferred.


Main duties of the job

Job Responsibilities:

* Answering telephone calls and dealing with face-to-face enquiries.
* Politely greeting patients and visitors to the surgery.
* Scheduling appointments for patients.
* Dealing with all requests in an efficient and courteous manner.
* Screening enquiries for the doctors and medical staff.
* Registering new patients at the surgery.
* Explaining the practice procedures to new patients.
* Accurately collecting information and personal details about patients.
* Updating clinical system with appointments and personal details.
* Receiving urine and blood samples and sending them off to hospital laboratories.
* Arranging prescriptions for patients.
* Maintaining a clean reception and waiting area to show a professional image.
* Opening post and forwarding it to the relevant parties.
* Opening and locking up the surgery.
* Covering colleagues during times of annual leave.
* Ensuring building security has thorough knowledge of doors, windows, and alarms.
* Keeping the reception area, notice boards, and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
* Having a thorough knowledge of all our Practice Policies and Procedures.
* Working in accordance with our Practice protocols.
* Maintaining a computerised medical database.
* Receiving deliveries into the practice and processing the relevant paperwork.
* Adhering to the practice protocol for incoming and outgoing petty cash.
* Any other tasks allocated by managers.


About us

St James Practice is looking for an experienced and well-rounded Care Navigator to join our friendly and innovative GP Practice. Located in Beckenham, we deliver care to over 7,000 patients, achieving high QOF performance and maintaining a Good CQC rating.

We seek an enthusiastic, reliable, motivated, and caring Receptionist who enjoys helping patients in a general practice setting. We offer NHS Pension and standard annual leave.

This role is for 19 hours per week, on three shifts: Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Opportunities for growth and progression are available.

Candidate must be available to cover annual leaves and absences.

We value good team players. Punctuality is important as staff work shifts and need to be relieved on time. This role is suitable for someone looking for a few hours of work. Candidates living locally will appreciate the short commute.

Job responsibilities

Primary Key responsibilities include:

* Processing and effectively signposting patients to the appropriate healthcare professional depending on the presenting condition.
* Answering incoming phone calls, transferring calls, or handling requests appropriately.
* Maintaining and monitoring all online requests/E-consults to ensure timely action.
* Initiating contact and responding to requests from patients, team members, and external agencies.
* Clinically coding data on Emis Web System accurately.
* Understanding total triage (training will be provided).
* Inputting data into patients' healthcare records as necessary.
* Directing requests for information, such as SARs, insurance/solicitors letters, and DVLA forms, to the administrative team.
* Managing queries efficiently.
* Maintaining a clean, tidy, and effective working area at all times.
* Monitoring and maintaining the reception area and notice boards.
* Supporting Care Navigators/Administrators by providing cover during staff absences.
* Scanning patient-related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient records, coding accurately.
* Completing opening and closing procedures as per the duty rota.
* Participating in the Care Navigators rota and maintaining all mandatory training and induction programs.
* Supporting the Patient Participation Group and health promotion activities.
* Attending formal appraisals with managers annually and setting performance/training objectives.
* Contributing to public health campaigns, such as flu clinics.
* Training and supporting new reception staff.
* Overseeing reception staff's annual leave to avoid clashes.
* Restocking clinical rooms and necessary supplies.
* Performing other duties as required by Partners and the Practice manager.

Qualifications

* Experience of working in a GP Practice.
* Experience of using EMIS Web.
