I'm recruiting on behalf of a highly respected, family-run accountancy firm based in central Carlisle, who are looking for a Making Tax Digital (MTD) Assistant to join their close-knit team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with practice experience and a strong grasp of UK VAT and digital bookkeeping, who enjoys working with clients and navigating the evolving world of digital tax compliance.
Key responsibilities:
* Support clients in transitioning to MTD-compliant accounting systems
* Prepare and submit quarterly digital VAT returns under MTD rules
* Maintain client records in line with HMRC digital record-keeping standards
* Provide training and onboarding support to clients using Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, etc.
* Communicate with HMRC on behalf of clients for MTD-related matters
* Assist with general admin and compliance support for the wider accountancy team
* Keep up to date with MTD developments and HMRC guidance
The ideal candidate will have:
* Practice experience essential, with sound knowledge of the UK tax system
* May be AAT, ATT qualified or QBE (qualified by experience)
* Detail-oriented, organised, and proactive
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - client-facing confidence is key
