Temporary Interim Health & Safety Manager
Location: Bartley Green
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager on up to 3‑month interim basis to lead the health and safety function and ensure a safe, compliant, and supportive environment for all staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice on all health and safety matters, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and sector standards.
* Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety management systems aligned with ISO 45001 principles.
* Review and enhance policies, procedures, and KPIs for the Health & Safety function.
* Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the University.
* Lead accident and incident investigations and report under RIDDOR as required.
* Prepare and present health and safety reports, including statistical analysis, to senior committees.
* Design and deliver engaging health and safety training, including staff inductions.
* Coordinate First Aiders and Mental Health First Aiders across campus.
* Collaborate with HR and other stakeholders on wellbeing initiatives and interventions.
What We’re Looking For
* Chartered IOSH membership (or equivalent).
* NEBOSH National General Certificate (minimum).
* Proven experience managing health and safety in the workplace; experience in higher education is desirable.
* Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and the ability to influence a positive safety culture.
* A proactive, hands‑on approach and excellent communication skills to engage and motivate colleagues at all levels.
