We're offering applications for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

As a Police Community Support Officer, you can make a direct contribution to your local community in Cambridgeshire. Our PCSOs work in Neighbourhood Policing Teams to play a vital role in talking with and being a reassuring presence to members of the public, helping to fight crime and anti-social behaviour, and building stronger relationships within the communities we serve.

Being a Police Community Support Officer is both exciting and rewarding. It calls for strong powers of observation, effective communication skills, judgment and problem-solving. Some of the activities include patrol by foot in local areas, attending public and partnerships meetings. To enable us to deliver outstanding policing for everyone, we need people from all backgrounds with a range of professional and life experiences so that we are truly representative of our communities.

The role involves evening and weekend shift work, including working some weekends and evenings, and you may be required to work at various locations across the county.

Becoming a PCSO offers a full or part time opportunity with the flexibility to fit around you, however the hours requested will need to fit in with operational requirements.

The starting salary is £26,106 for individuals working full time (37 hours per week) and working the full shift pattern. The salary, with shift allowance, will increase to a maximum of £28,653 based on length of service and performance related pay.

You will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). This is a contributory Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) scheme to which the Constabulary as the employer contributes to as well.

As a full time PCSO, we'll offer you a minimum of 178 hours of annual leave (24 days), with the potential to increase up to 222 hours (30 days), dependent on your hours of work and length of service. You will also receive eight days of public holidays. Your annual leave entitlement will be confirmed when you begin your role.

All applicants are required to hold a UK full manual driving licence at the point of applying.

All applicants are required to have at least 3 years residency in the UK.

If you wish to apply to start your career as a PCSO, complete the online application form. If your application is shortlisted you will then be invited to undertake SIFT which is an online situational judgement assessment and then a competency-based interview. If successful following these stages your pre-employment checks will include vetting, medical and references. Due to this role involving shift work, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment with our Occupational Health Unit.
