Assistant Accountant – Housing & Property
Location: Hybrid – Home and Bradford Office
Salary: £33,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent | Full time (37.5 hours)
We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in supporting our opeational service teams. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build on their accounting experience in a supportive organisation where you can develop your skills in management accounting, budgeting and financial partnering.
Working closely with stakeholders and colleagues across finance, you’ll help deliver accurate financial reporting, provide practical financial support, and contribute to continuous improvement across the service.
What You’ll Do
1. Prepare and post accounting entries including accruals, prepayments, recharges and re-codes
2. Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts and budget reporting
3. Analyse financial performance and investigate variances, providing clear commentary and insight
4. Deliver ad hoc financial analysis to support operational decision-making
5. Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in line with reporting deadlines
6. Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process across central service functions
7. Build strong relationships with budget holders, providing guidance and helping develop financial management understanding
8. Provide finance systems support and respond to finance queries from operational colleagues
9. Ensure compliance with financial procedures, controls and regulatory requirements
10. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across finance systems, processes and reporting
What We’re Looking For
11. AAT qualification (or equivalent experience), or willingness to study towards a professional qualification
12. Experience working within a finance or accounting environment
13. Strong Excel and IT skills
14. Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues
15. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
16. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
17. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Desirable
18. Experience within housing, property or a multi-site organisation
19. Exposure to budgeting, forecasting or management accounting activities
