Are you a teacher or HLTA who wants to truly connect with students who are struggling in mainstream education? Blend your teaching expertise with youth work – combining personalised 1:1 tutoring with innovative youth enterprise and creative projects.
The Platform Project is an innovative social enterprise with a difference. We work closely with local authorities, education institutions and local employers to bridge the gap between education and employment through our unique concept of a 'training workplace'. This role combines our alternative provision (AP) service with 1:1 tutoring, working across both our DISCOVER and ENGAGE programmes for young people aged 11-18 who struggle to engage with mainstream education.
About The Role:
Our Engage AP programme works with a maximum of 12 students at a 1:3 staffing ratio, giving you the time and space that's often missing in mainstream education. You'll deliver experiential learning project sessions focused on youth enterprise and creative careers, alongside providing personalised 1:1 tutoring in Maths and English (GCSE and Functional Skills). The full role profile can be found on our website, but key roles and responsibilities will include:
· 1:1 Tutoring: Assess learning needs, create personalised tutoring plans, and deliver Key Stage 3 & 4 curriculum content using creative, engaging techniques that move beyond traditional classroom approaches.
· Alternative Provision Delivery: Work with Programme Leads to deliver practical youth development sessions, adapting activities and creative projects to engage and support students with additional needs.
· Relationship Building: Develop trusting, trauma-informed relationships with students who haven't had positive educational experiences, helping them rediscover their love of learning.
· Student Support: Act as a key worker for a small caseload, supporting pastoral and safeguarding needs while coordinating individual plans informed by EHCPs.
· Progress Monitoring: Track student development across both programmes and produce termly reports for schools and referrers.
About The Ideal Candidate:
This role is perfect for teachers or HLTAs who want to use their educational expertise in a more flexible, relationship-focused environment. You'll blend elements of teaching, youth work, mentoring and training. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience teaching or tutoring young people, with experience in functional skills and/or GCSE Maths & English, plus experience working with young people with additional learning or SEMH needs.
You must be patient, inclusive, resilient, flexible and creative - someone who is student-focused and thrives when working as part of a small team to bring about transformation in the lives of challenging but vulnerable young people.
If you're ready to use your teaching experience in an innovative way where relationships come first and you can truly see the impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.
The Platform Project is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people. The appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check (including a check against the Children's Barred List) and satisfactory references.
If this sounds like the ideal role for you, please submit your CV. Following an initial review, candidates progressing to the next stage will be invited to complete an application form. Alternatively, you can contact The Platform Project to find out more.
