The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.. Our main service locations are The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, which together provide 99% of our activit ty. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute h tal services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care. During 2012/13 the Princess Royal Hospital became our main specialist centre for inpatient head and neck surgery with the establishment of a new Head and Neck ward and enhanced outpatient facilities. It also became our main centre for inpatient Women and Children’s services following the opening of the Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre in September 2014. During 2012/13, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital became our main specialist centre for acute surgery with a new Surgical Assessment Unit, Surgical Short Stay Unit and Ambulatory Care facilities. Together the hospitals have just over 700 beds and assessment & treatment trolleys. Alongside our services at The Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury, we also provide community and outreach services such as: Consultant-led outreach clinics (including the Wrekin Community Clinic at Euston House in Telford); Midwife-led units at Ludlow, Bridgnorth and Oswestry; Renal dialysis outreach services at Ludlow Hospital; Community services including Midwifery, Audiology and Therapies.ospi

Job overview
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are seeking a Mechanical Fitter/ Plumber/ Maintenance Engineer to join our busy Estates Department to perform multi-skilled tasks which can be complex and/ or non-routine.
This involves working on hot and cold-water systems, heating systems, control of water hygiene and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment.
The successful candidate will be required to join the On-call Rota after sufficient training and must be able to respond to emergency calls within 45 minutes of leaving home and arriving at the hospital base.
Working 37.5 hours per week and based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford; you may however be required to work at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or any other buildings the Trust has responsibility to maintain.

* The postholder will be capable of carrying out mechanical work covering a wide an diverse range of equipment and plant, will also work in accordance with the requirements of all Health Technical Memorandum (HTM’s) and guidance/regulation.
* To act as Competent person (CP) for relevant disciplines i.e. Health Technical Memorandum (HTM’s) as designated.
* To plan and manage day to day work and co-ordinate with Contractors and other staff members to arrange for work to be carried out.
* To design, manufacture, assemble and install new work.
* To carry out tasks effectively and efficiently to a high standard and instruct others on aspects of the trade.
* To work with and assist others Trades.
* The postholder will actively participate in the operation of engineering planned maintenance systems.
* The postholder will join the On-Call system responding to out of hours emergency calls from the On-Call Engineer to take appropriate action to make safe or repair, communicating and advising those affected, i.e. staff, patients and visitors etc.
* The postholder will be required to carry a Trust communication device as and when operational needs require, responding to urgent requests from their Line Manager during their working shift.
* The postholder will respond to fire calls and assist as directed on site.
