We are seeking a passionate, ambitious, and inspiring Head of Biology to lead by example, forge vibrant relationships, and drive excellence within our outstanding Science team. We want teachers who are conscientious, enjoy working with children, have a robust understanding and knowledge of the Science national curriculum in the three disciplines, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and a particular strength in teaching Biology and love to see students succeed. The Science department is collaborative, supportive, open-minded and driven, and always looking for ways to improve.
1. Carry out the duties of a School Teacher as set out in the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.
2. Teach specialist subject within the age range 11 - 16 and, if necessary, other subjects commensurate with your expertise.
Teaching:
3. Use research-informed teaching and learning strategies to enable students of all abilities and backgrounds to make optimum progress.
4. Demonstrate passion for your subject.
5. Have a strong willingness to collaborate within the department and across other MAT schools.
6. Secure a good standard of student behaviour in the classroom by establishing high expectations based on strong, positive relationships with young people.
7. Have an understanding of the ‘best bets’ in the classroom with regards to research-informed practice.
8. Have a commitment to inclusive teaching that allows all students to thrive and make progress.
9. Use formative and summative assessment to inform planning and responsive teaching.
10. Understand the purpose of spaced retrieval practice and how to manage students’ cognitive load.
11. Provide regular feedback, as and when appropriate.
12. Marking and analysing summative assessment performance.
Strategic Direction and Leadership:
13. To lead and develop the teaching of Biology within the Science Department
14. Support, guide, and inspire departmental colleagues, including supporting non-specialists delivering Biology topics at KS3 and KS4.
15. Promote a collaborative, supportive, and driven culture within the Science department, constantly seeking ways to improve teaching practices.
Professional:
16. Attend scheduled department subject planning and development sessions and tutor meetings
17. Attend parents' consultation meetings as directed
18. Participate in the school's performance management process
19. Participate in instructional coaching programme for all 1-5-year teachers. 6 year + teachers to work through the professional development curriculum.
20. Attend the In-Service Training programmes organised by the Multi Academy Trust.
21. Implement school policies
22. Take responsibility for your own professional development.
Form Tutor:
23. Support the well-being of all members of the tutor group.
24. Attend year group meetings as directed.
25. Maintain an accurate register of student attendance, including lateness, in accordance with school guidance.
26. Ensure effective communication to parents and students through distribution of written material and collection of acknowledgements where appropriate.
27. Participate in ‘Everybody Reads’ tutor programme.
28. Teach PSHE as part of the pastoral programme for form time
