As a Band 3 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting qualified Speech and Language Therapists in delivering care to individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping others, especially adults with complex needs, and who thrives in a collaborative, community‑focused environment. This role will be covering Huntingdon, Doddington and Wisbech area. Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence.


Responsibilities

* Use a vehicle – public transport is not reliable and will not allow you to meet service needs. Please confirm you meet this requirement in your application.
* Assist the Speech and Language Therapists in their clinical and administrative work and carry out speech and language therapy programmes with adult patients with speech, language and swallowing difficulties under the supervision of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. Programme delivery may be on an individual or group basis at community hospitals, nursing/residential homes, patient homes and other locations.
* Interpret the DVLA reciprocal arrangements and visit the DVLA website when necessary. Make judgments on patients' response to prescribed treatment/care plans and report findings to a qualified professional in line with the competency framework.
* Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients with hearing or cognitive impairment.
* Communicate with patients and carers by exchanging information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
* Work under guidance on specified tasks, taking direction from registered and non‑registered staff as appropriate, with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner.
* Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of consent and gain consent as appropriate following organisational policies.
* Work within the wider disciplinary team and recognise own role within it.
* Promote patient independence and self‑management.
* Provide and maintain a safe, comfortable and dignified environment for all patients, clients and carers.
