Within the Southwest Neonatal network, approximately 1200 transfers of infants requiring critical care are carried out each year, including transfers back to their home hospitals. These are primarily road ambulance transfers, with an increasing number using air ambulance. As part of the SoNAR Neonatal Transport Service, you will work with a dedicated team of Nurses, Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Junior Doctors, Advanced Paramedics, and Consultants.

Transport Nurses utilize their neonatal nursing expertise, along with troubleshooting, communication, and team working skills, to ensure safe and high-quality transport services. This role offers opportunities to develop skills in transport equipment, logistics, and responding to clinical challenges in transport, which are vital for neonatal transfers in our region.

This role is based in the northern hub of the SoNAR service, located at Aztec West, Bristol. As a Band 6 neonatal transport nurse, you will be responsible for the safe transportation of critically ill infants and their families. Following comprehensive induction training, you will undertake transfers independently or as part of a medical/nursing team, depending on the infant's needs. Transfers may involve aeromedical or road transport.

You will work effectively as part of a small team, both in hospitals and en-route, and will sometimes operate independently under stressful conditions. Your expertise in transport equipment, logistics, and clinical response will be central to delivering high-quality neonatal transfers in our region.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the largest acute trusts in the country, with over 13,000 staff and more than 100 clinical services across 10 sites, serving over 500,000 people in South West England. Rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC, we are committed to delivering excellent care, innovation, and research. Our hospitals in Bristol and Weston offer vibrant city life and proximity to countryside and seaside, with easy access to the South West's attractions.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. As an equal opportunities employer, we aim to recruit a diverse workforce that reflects the local population and to design services around individual needs.
