When you join USS, the size and scale of our pension scheme means you will have numerous opportunities to learn and develop your career.

Given our size, you'll have real autonomy and influence as you collaborate closely with a wide-ranging team of experts.

Our office is a vibrant place to work, and we offer flexibility of office/homeworking due to our hybrid model.

About the role

In your role as BI Analyst, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role offers a great opportunity to be responsible for developing and maintaining advanced data models, dashboards, and reports using Microsoft Power BI.

The role requires strong technical expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and SQL to transform complex datasets into insightful visualisations that support business decision-making.

You will work with data from multiple sources - both cloud-based and on-premise - and ensure the accuracy, performance, and scalability of reporting solutions. Familiarity with pensions data is highly desirable, as you will handle sensitive and regulated information with precision and compliance.

A key objective is to lead the transition of reporting solutions into an end-user ownership model, designing intuitive, self-service analytics tools, providing documentation and training, and empowering business users to explore and interpret data independently.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of data governance, ETL processes, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring solutions are technically robust, sustainable, and user-friendly.

What you will be doing

As part of the IT team, you will:

* Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective data visualisations.
* Build and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support reporting needs.
* Integrate data from sources such as SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, and cloud platforms.
* Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance across all reporting solutions.
* Support the development and maintenance of semantic data models and DAX measures.
* Participate in attestation and governance processes per the Power BI Framework and Software Development Policy.
* Provide training and support to business users for ongoing ownership and management of Power BI solutions.
* Work with stakeholders to ensure reporting solutions meet requirements and add value.
* Produce reports aligned with a consumer ownership model for stakeholder handover and ongoing management.

About you

We know that people can be put off applying if they don't meet every requirement. If you're excited about working with us and have most of the skills or experience outlined, please apply regardless of whether you meet all criteria.

To succeed, you will have:

* Proven experience with Microsoft Power BI (Desktop and Service).
* Strong SQL skills, including experience with SQL Server, SSIS, Azure, Fabric, and data modelling.
* Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance standards.
* Experience working with large datasets and complex data transformations.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Experience in the pensions sector or financial services is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication skills to present complex solutions effectively to stakeholders.
