Job Description:
Sous Chef
Liskeard, Cornwall
£32,000–£36,000 per year (DOE)
Full-Time | Permanent | Immediate Start
A Sous Chef Role With Structure, Creativity & Real Work-Life Balance
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a talented Sous Chef to join a well-established, family-run luxury events retreat set within 14 acres of stunning countryside near Liskeard, Cornwall.
This is not a chaotic, late-night restaurant kitchen.
This is a professionally run, forward-planned events operation offering structure, stability and the opportunity to cook with creativity — without the burnout.
Why Chefs Love This Role
In this kitchen, events are booked months — sometimes years — in advance.
That means:
? Clear service schedules
? Proper prep time
? No walk-ins
? No unpredictable covers
? Thoughtful menu development
? No split shifts
? Year-round stability
Guests stay for two-night celebrations, with catering including welcome meals, breakfasts, canapés, evening feasts and a main event dining experience for up to 140 guests.
Everything is planned. Everything is organised. Everything is delivered to a high standard.
The Opportunity
The Sous Chef will work closely with the Head Chef to deliver exceptional food across a varied events programme.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen
2. Leading service in the Head Chef’s absence
3. Contributing to seasonal menu development
4. Maintaining high standards of food safety and presentation
5. Coaching and supporting junior team members
This role is ideal for a strong Sous Chef who wants to step away from unpredictable restaurant service and into a structured, professional events kitchen.
The Ideal Candidate
6. Experienced Sous Chef or strong Senior Chef de Partie ready to step up
7. Confident running service and leading a section
8. Organised, calm and reliable under pressure
9. Passionate about quality, seasonal cooking
10. Strong communicator and team player
11. High standards of hygiene and cleanliness
Due to the rural Liskeard location, own transport is essential.
Salary & Benefits
12. £32,000–£36,000 per year (DOE)
13. Permanent, year-round employment
14. Pension scheme
15. Staff meals
16. Free on-site parking
17. Staff events
18. Structured working patterns
19. Genuine work-life balance
