Job Title: Senior VMware Engineer (Contract – 6 Months)
Location: Hybrid - 2 Days a week in London
Rate: £520 per day
Duration: 6-Month Contract (with potential extension)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior VMware Engineer to join our team on an initial 6-month contract. This role focuses on supporting and enhancing a large-scale VMware estate, with some exposure to OpenShift and container platforms. You’ll be instrumental in maintaining stability, driving improvements, and supporting ongoing infrastructure transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, deploy, and support VMware infrastructure (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
* Manage and optimize virtual environments for performance, scalability, and resilience
* Deliver BAU support alongside project-based infrastructure enhancements
* Implement and maintain VMware features such as HA, DRS, vMotion, and SRM
* Support storage and network integrations (including vSAN and NSX where applicable)
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and performance issues
* Collaborate with DevOps/platform teams on containerized environments
* Provide support and basic administration for OpenShift clusters (desirable)
* Automate routine tasks using PowerCLI, Ansible, or similar tools
* Document systems, processes, and changes clearly
Required Skills & Experience
* Extensive hands-on VMware experience (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
* Proven experience in enterprise-scale environments
* Strong knowledge of virtualization, compute, storage, and networking
* Experience with VMware HA, DRS, and lifecycle management
* Solid troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
* Experience with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python)
Desirable Skills
* Exposure to Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes platforms
* Experience with VMware NSX and/or vSAN
* Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Cloud exposure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
* Previous contract experience in fast-paced environments
