Male Peer Support Workers to work with and support our patients

We are excited to recruit 4 Peer Support Worker positions
* 3 Positions - 15 hours per week (2 days) - working days will be flexible depending on the needs of the patients
* 1 Position - 22.50 hours per week (3 days) - working days will be flexible depending on the needs of the patients

About the roles:
* These roles are designed for individuals with lived experience of mental distress or brain injury.
* You’ll use your own recovery experience to inspire hope and belief in recovery for others.
* You’ll work on a ward alongside the clinical team to help patients achieve their recovery goals.
* Working with people with complex psychological needs requires emotional and mental resilience.
* You’ll be supported with training on how to effectively use your lived experience.
* The posts involve contributing to the development of the Peer Support Worker role, especially within secure mental health services.
* You will receive induction, training, ongoing supervision, and support, including a network of other peer support workers.
What you’ll do:
* Build supportive and respectful relationships with patients
* Support others using your personal experience and confidence
* Assist nursing staff in helping patients identify recovery goals
* Support patients in attending meetings and engaging in activities
* Participate in ward rounds and document patient notes
* Help develop the peer support worker programme and role within the charity
* Model responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy, and hopefulness
What you’ll need:
* Personal experience of mental health distress or brain injury
* An understanding of your own recovery
* Experience with secure mental health services
* Resilience and knowing when to ask for help
* Understanding factors affecting mental health recovery
* IT literacy (Microsoft Office, Internet) or willingness to learn
* Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
* Ability to work well in a team
* Empathy, good listening skills, approachability
Applicants should have at least 12 months without using secure services and be discharged from forensic community services. All posts require enhanced DBS checks; past convictions will not necessarily prevent employment.
