Position
We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join Rail Infrastructure as part of Communication and Information Services (CIS) business within the Engineering team and reports to SCADA Design Manager. This role is office based, with the primary location in Ashby De-La-Zouch.
Responsibilities
This role involves requirements capture, design, implementation, test, installation, commissioning and maintenance of SCADA Systems within the Rail sector.
You’ll make an impact by
* Technically understanding our customer requirements and then ensuring that a solution is designed and implemented in a methodical manner utilising industry best practices
* Engineering elements of a project and liaising closely with all members of the engineering team
* Delivering assigned activities within agreed timescales and budgeted costs
* Developing a firm understanding and appreciation of system design, development of system design, safety concepts and associated decision making as applied to applicable industries
* Application of appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the project life cycle
* Delivering assigned task in accordance with Company Safety and Quality procedures and all applicable legislative, safety and customer requirements
* Responsible for maintaining and developing their own professional competence
Your success will be measured by
* Proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic, Control, Systems, or similar) with Chartered Engineer status (or working toward it)
* Proven experience in SCADA design and programming, preferably to the Rail market
* Technical competency in industrial control platforms, including hands‑on experience with A8000 RTUs, Siemens S7 PLCs, TIA Portal, and the integration of PLC/RTU‑based systems with field devices and networks
* Practical expertise with modern SCADA platforms, ideally WinCC OA
* Systems engineering awareness - requirements capture and decomposition, architecture definition, interface control, integration planning and full V‑lifecycle verification & validation
* Experience and knowledge of engineering processes at all stages of the engineering lifecycle
* Ability to learn new programming languages
