Job Description
Overview: It is expected that this role will operate from our customer's site, so you will be expected to work at the Portsmouth site 5 days a week. We are looking for an energetic and driven engineer with broad expertise. Candidates with experience in marine, military, aerospace, or rail are of particular interest (in order of priority). This role offers a great opportunity to contribute directly to the security of the UK and our allies. Valued attributes include being a team player, using initiative, having a passion for engineering, attention to detail, and a thorough, methodical approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities:
1. Diagnosing and troubleshooting faults in legacy electronics systems, including analogue and digital circuits, radar, communication systems, navigation equipment, HV, and control systems.
2. Defining repairs, component-level replacements, and calibration of ageing hardware, often with obsolete or hard-to-source components.
3. Maintaining system functionality under constraints of outdated technology and limited documentation.
4. Reverse-engineering circuits, schematics, and systems where original documentation is incomplete or unavailable.
5. Creating and updating technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, component lists, and maintenance procedures, to support ongoing operations.
6. Identifying equivalent modern components to replace obsolete parts while ensuring compatibility and compliance. Using legacy test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) and adapting modern tools for compatibility with older systems.
7. Integrating modern electronics (e.g., micro-controllers, sensors) into existing systems, ensuring seamless operation.
8. Documenting and mitigating risks associated with ageing equipment, including reliability and cybersecurity concerns.
Qualifications: Degree in engineering, ideally with an electronics background. Suitable experience beyond formal qualifications is also acceptable where applicable.
Essential Skills: Strong knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, including thermionic valves, transistors, and early integrated circuits. Proficiency in troubleshooting complex circuits using tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
Desired Skills: Familiarity with SAP transactions (training can be provided) is desirable.
Experience: Experience in electronics engineering, preferably with legacy systems or defense projects.
Requirements: UK sole SC clearance, ability/willingness to work full-time in Portsmouth.
Benefits: Collaborative working environment, opportunities to expand skills and participate in inspiring projects, access to Expleo Academy for training, competitive benefits, inclusive and accessible recruitment process, and support for employees with health conditions.
