JR PAT Testing is rapidly expanding across the UK, and we are looking for experienced Portable Appliance Test (PAT) Engineers. All engineers are self‑employed, must have their own insurance, and keep their equipment calibrated at least once a year. We provide an engineer handbook, a contract for services, branded clothing, labels, and technical support.
All applicants must hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, and be reliable, honest, and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. You must keep your testing instruments, measuring devices, and other tools up‑to‑date and in good working order, meeting all relevant regulations.
Positions are located in High Wycombe and the surrounding commuter areas. Engineers may travel nationally, but a reasonable commuting distance to High Wycombe is required.

Potential earnings are pro‑rated based on the rate per appliance, the number of tests, and job dynamics. Jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts.
Typical Day of a PAT Engineer
A typical day starts with packing all necessary tools—testers, record books, and other equipment—into the van and heading to the first job. You’ll test a range of appliances, from microwaves to computers, using appropriate test instruments. Results are recorded in a dedicated PAT test report book or an electronic system, and employers receive copies. Extra paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists may also be required.
Throughout the day you’ll move between locations, alone or with a team. Staying organised and ensuring accurate, efficient testing is essential for success.
