Offer description

About the Women's Team:

Our team is committed to fostering a supportive environment that empowers female athletes to showcase their skills and reach their full potential.

We prioritise player development through tailored training programs that focus on technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.

The SAFC Women’s Football Team benefits from strong collaboration with our Coaching and Analysis teams, ensuring that our strategies and training sessions are informed by the latest insights and best practices.

The Opportunity:

Provide pitch-side injury management and pre-hospital care for Sunderland AFC Women players during training sessions and matches, ensuring timely assessment, diagnosis, and treatment with appropriate follow‑up. Work closely with the women’s medical team to discuss and manage all player injuries, maintaining clear and effective communication with players and all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Accurately record and maintain medical notes for all players using systems directed by the medical team, and conduct pre-season testing to establish baseline performance and health metrics.

Manage the medical budget, including expenditure on scans, surgeries, and medical equipment, while liaising with external providers regarding player diagnostics, treatment, and specialist care. Maintain communication with league bodies, including reporting player injuries in line with WSL requirements. Ensure that Medical Emergency Action Plans are accurate, up to date, and effectively implemented for all training sessions and matchdays.

Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting boundaries across medical, coaching, administrative, and playing staff. Attend and engage in required internal and external continuing professional development (CPD), and ensure full compliance with all club and league safeguarding, health, and safety regulations.

What We Ask For:

Applicants must be a Chartered Physiotherapist and registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC); applications from Sports Therapists will not be considered. Candidates should have a minimum of two season’s experience working in professional sport, along with a strong understanding of female athlete health.

The successful candidate will hold a Level 4 FA ITMIFF qualification and demonstrate a willingness to work towards ATMIFF accreditation. In addition, they must be a UKAD Clean Sport Advisor and hold current FA DBS clearance and FA Safeguarding Children certification.

You will be required to obtain an Enhanced DBS through SAFC.
