Overview RJD Associates (North West) Limited are looking for a hard-working and highly motivated individual to join our team as a CDM Principal Designer, and work on a variety of residential, commercial, industrial and refurbishment projects around the North of England and beyond. Responsibilities Candidates for this role must have suitable and sufficient experience of acting as a CDM Principal Designer, including: Visiting development sites to assess health and safety risks and buildability constraints. Reviewing design drawings, surveys, records and reports, and assessing potential risks to health and safety during both the construction of a structure and its post-completion use. Working proactively and engaging positively with Clients and Colleagues and hosting CDM workshops with fellow design team members. Preparing Pre-Construction Information. Preparing CDM Risk Registers. Carrying out site health and safety monitoring visits, including both formal audits and informal walkovers, and reporting the findings back to key project stakeholders. Identifying information required for inclusion in the Health & Safety File and liaising with project team members to prepare the File. Qualifications and capabilities Candidates for this role within the Company must: Have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience of working within construction health and safety risk management including coordinating pre-construction phase health and safety matters as a CDM Principal Designer. Hold APS or IOSH accreditations Have good communication skills and experience of liaising with Clients, Principal Contractors, Designers and Contractors throughout both the pre-construction and construction phases of a project. Be capable of preparing Company documentation to a high standard including Pre-Construction Information, CDM Risk Registers, Health & Safety Files, reports and general correspondence with suitable formatting and presentation. Be proficient is using software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and SafetyCulture (formerly iAuditor). Have a full UK driving license; whilst the Company is based in the Northwest we work on projects around the UK, and the role involves travelling to carry out site health and safety monitoring visits, and to attend in-person meetings. Have sufficient initiative to work both individually and as part of a small, dedicated team, and to help the Company provide solutions to health and safety risk management considerations and issues that may arise on any given project. Hours of work Company working hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm on Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 2.00pm on Friday. Place of work The Company offices are located in East Lancashire, with the flexibility to work from home.
