Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Ministry of Defence (Defence Medical Services)

Full‑time position, 37.5 hours per week. Standard hours 0800‑1700 Monday‑Thursday and 0800‑1330 on Friday.
Requests for flexible or part‑time work may be considered.
We are an inclusive and dedicated Rehabilitation Centre aiming to provide high‑quality multidisciplinary care to injured service personnel.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) rehabilitation to service personnel with complex clinical needs within the Neurological Rehabilitation Service.
* Support Defence Primary Health Care (PHC) and liaise with other team members.
* Work autonomously and be accountable for own professional actions and for staff line managed.
* Provide full support to Band 7 SLTs and the Neuro Service Manager in delivering an evidence‑based SLT service.
* Assess complex patients using a range of assessment/diagnostic methods and reach valid, reliable, patient‑centred conclusions appropriate to needs, context and culture.
* Utilise specialist knowledge of swallowing, speech, voice, language, higher‑level linguistic disorders, pragmatics and cognitive communication problems.
* Support the Interdisciplinary Team in interpreting assessment results and making recommendations.
* Lead and participate in groups run for service personnel as required (e.g., cognitive communication groups).
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy.
Registration and Memberships
* Health and Care Professions Council Registered (HCPC).
* Membership of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
Experience
* Relevant experience within clinical areas such as brain injury, stroke and progressive neurological conditions.

Pay and Benefits
Salary range: £38,682 to £46,580 per year (Pro Rata for part time). Pay award pending.
