Role Overview
This is a fixed‑term, 12‑month post in General Surgery covering Emergency and Elective Colorectal and Upper GI surgery.
The post holder will provide clinical support to surgical teams, outpatient clinics, and will take part in the 1 in 12 on‑call middle‑grade rota.
The General Surgery Team provides a consultant‑led General and Emergency Service that includes a Surgical Assessment Unit and an Ambulatory Hot Clinic supporting A&E flow. Candidates will gain extensive exposure to complex emergency surgical management and to elective theatre work.
The new junior doctor contract offers an exciting rota that delivers excellent training opportunities and robust service provision.
In addition to broad emergency general surgery experience, the role involves exposure to full range of Upper and Lower GI specialist surgery.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical support to surgical teams and outpatient clinics.
* Participate in the 1 in 12 on‑call middle‑grade rota.
* Manage complex emergency surgical cases and contribute to elective theatre work.
* Assist in the Surgical Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Hot Clinic.
* Support safe and effective emergency service provision for A&E flow.
Qualifications
Applicants must have GMC registration and a minimum of ST2 level surgical experience.
Ability to work with vulnerable groups is required; an enhanced criminal record check will be undertaken at appointment, and regular updates will be obtained throughout employment.
