Biomedical Support Assistant – Digital Pathology

Are you an enthusiastic individual looking to work as part of a busy Cellular Pathology team?
The Histology department is introducing Digital Pathology (whole slide imaging) and we are looking for a person to support the department in scanning the slides and training the staff.
Please note that this role is based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will work alongside the existing team to scan the diagnostic slides for training, validation, reporting and MDT discussion, ensuring that the scanned images are of appropriate quality.
To form part of a team responsible for the processing all the samples received each day and to maintain the turnaround times for all patient samples.
To ensure slides are scanned in a timely and efficient manner and cover appropriate duties in the wider pathology department in order to support other staff in learning digital pathology.

Job responsibilities
Duties to include but not be limited to:
* Prepare slides for scanning.
* Load and unload slide scanners, ensuring efficient workflow.
* Input and retrieve data from the LIMS and departmental databases.
* To receive and unpack a range of sample types.
To check that the correct sample type has been received, correct sample labelling and suitability for diagnostic investigations, in accordance with Pathology laboratory policies and standard operating procedures (SOP); to take appropriate action for non-compliances
* To recognise, prioritise and fast-track urgent samples to ensure minimal delay to patient treatment and waiting times

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level
* Numerate and literate with a good general and basic education
* IBMS support staff CoA part 1
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience of applying working practices in line with health and safety legislation
* Experience of contributing to service development and quality improvement within a workplace or organisation
* Experience of working in a cellular pathology laboratory
