JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Education and experience as required by state certification authorities

Knowledge:
Knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge in developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning. Knowledge of records, forms, and reports to be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of counseling methods for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of materials and information to be prepared for classroom instructional activities.

Skills/Effort:
Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in classroom activities. Ability to operate general office equipment. Ability to prepare lesson plans, tests, and instructional materials. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend remedial action to parents. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, district staff, and all groups involved in the activities of the job.

Working Conditions:
Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands include lifting/moving items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel. Operates standard office equipment.

Responsibility:
Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget. Supervises students in classroom. Supervises instructional aides and volunteers as assigned.

General Summary:
Under general supervision, assists students in learning subject matter and/or skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Essential Functions:

* Cooperates in developing a program of continuous progress aligned with district goals to meet pupil needs, interests, and abilities.
* Keeps abreast of changes in district policies and students’ needs and interests.
* Establishes clear objectives for classroom activities and communicates these to students.
* Employs instructional methods and materials appropriate for achieving objectives.
* Assesses student progress regularly and provides progress reports as required.
* Analyzes progress of individual students and seeks appropriate assistance as needed.
* Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
* Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to pupil maturity and interests.
* Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers and evaluates their performance.
* Provides plans for substitute teachers and evaluates their performance.
* Seeks cooperation and assistance of parents through oral or written communication and/or home visits.
* Remains available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required or requested.
* Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policies, and regulations.
* Takes precautions to protect students and property, equipment, materials, and facilities.
* Upholds and enforces school rules, regulations, and policies.
* Is punctual and responsible in performing duties as assigned.
* Supports administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
* Engages in ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or coursework.
* Participates in school or district staff development programs as assigned.
* Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, and contributes to co-curricular activities as assigned.
* Maintains appropriate attendance and follows chain of command as designated by policies.
* Presents a positive image of the district at all times.
