An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Laser Coordinator to join the Dermatology team within the Blood, Cells and Cancer Directorate at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support to the dermatology laser service whose admissions are largely managed on Pelican Ambulatory and Nightingale Ward. This involves taking full responsibility for the co-ordination of admissions, all patients wait listed for laser within the Dermatology Department, including booking pre-laser clinics.
This involves managing the Laser Spreadsheet and subsequent correspondence, providing excellent customer service to patients and families, and undertaking pathway management and validation.
This also involved managing the theatre list by requesting new sessions on Gatekeeper, cancelling or making changes to the theatre list as requested by clinicians.
As well as working closely with the Consultants, Registrars, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Theatre Service Team within the Trust, you will also need to liaise with other external agencies. You must be able to work calmly under pressure and have a proven track record in using your own initiative and prioritizing your workload in to meet tight deadlines.
Main duties of the job
* Provide administrative support within Dermatology, working closely with medical and nursing staff. This includes taking responsibility for the co-ordination of laser patients.
* Be responsible for contacting laser patients, informing them of their procedure date.
* Improve the quality of information provided to parents in liaison with the sub-speciality staff, including the development and maintenance of comprehensive admission schedules.
* Deal with cancellation of admissions and procedures, liaising with medical staff to take
remedial action to ensure rational use of resources.
* Use Trust reports to ensure that patients are admitted within national and local waiting time targets.
* Follow up, in liaison with the appropriate Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), any patients who do not attend for a planned admission or procedure in order to reduce the likelihood of it happening again and to re-arrange where appropriate. Actively seeking to reduce Did Not
Attend (DNA) rates across the department.
* Actively work with the Ward Sister, CNSs and other A&C staff to arrange for patients to attend and / or be admitted at short notice in the event of a cancelled theatre slot.
* Work closely with CNSs and other clinical staff to ensure maximum utilisation of allocated laser theatre time.

* Previous experience in an administrative role is essential
* Understanding of national Referral to Treatment rules
