The role may involve a blended hybrid working model, with a mixture of working from home and working on site at one of our Leonardo offices to ensure close collaboration with the wider team and with our customers.
Leonardo UK is seeking aSenior Platform Engineerto join the Cyber & Security Solutions Division team. This role is focused on delivering,maintaining, and improving platform and systems engineering solutions that underpin critical defence,governmentand public sector services.
What you will do as a Senior Platform Engineer
1. Lead the design, build, and support of secure platforms acrosson-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
2. Take ownership of engineering delivery for one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and reporting.
3. Develop and review system architectures, low-level designs, and technical documentation.
4. Integrate and test platform components, ensuring compliance with security and performance requirements.
5. Provide mentoring, guidance, and technical leadership to Platform Engineers and Technicians.
6. Collaborate with stakeholders, project teams, and customers to ensure solutions meet requirements.
7. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to internal engineering standards.
Whatyou’llbring
8. Strong technical ability with experience of delivering and supporting complex platforms.
9. Ability to balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
10. Confidence to take ownership of solutions and represent engineering in technical discussions.
Core areas (must have):
11. Windows and Linux operating systems
12. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google) and containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
13. Networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls)
14. Experience with automation or scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
15. Familiarity with cyber security tools and system hardening practices
16. Understanding of ITIL and service management frameworks
Desirable:
17. Virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
18. Strong knowledge of enterprise services such as Active Directory, PKI, SQL, or Exchange
19. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines andDevSecOpspractices
20. Hands-on use of monitoring, endpoint security, and patch management tools
21. Industry certifications (Microsoft, VMware, AWS, or equivalent)
