Keep the Nation Fuelled — Plan, Optimise, Deliver
AvantiGas is looking for an experienced Forecast Planner to join our busy planning team in Chesterfield, ensuring our fleet of vehicles is routed and scheduled to deliver LPG safely and efficiently to customers across the UK.
We are looking for someone who thrives on the challenge of dynamic, high-volume operational planning; someone who can balance competing priorities, keep a cool head under pressure, and make smart decisions that keep our customers supplied and our fleet moving.
The Opportunity
As National Planner, you will be at the heart of AvantiGas’s supply chain operation, creating daily delivery plans that maximise fleet utilisation while meeting our customers’ expectations and all relevant legislative requirements.
Reporting to the UK Planning Manager and working as part of a team of around seven planners, you will use computerised routing and scheduling tools to plan LPG loads across approximately 100 vehicles, managing the balance between efficiency, cost, safety, and service.
You will work closely with colleagues in Sales, Customer Services, Engineering, and Site Safety, as well as collaborating directly with our Forecast Demand Planner to manage the order book and anticipate customer needs.
This is more than a desk-based scheduling role — it’s a fast-paced, operationally critical position where your planning decisions directly impact whether our customers have the energy they need.
What You Will Be Doing
* Plan loads using computerised routing and scheduling tools, ensuring LPG deliveries are efficiently scheduled while maintaining our service level agreements.
* Create achievable daily delivery plans that comply with all legislative requirements, including driver hours and Working Time Directive regulations.
* Review and optimise routes to minimise transport costs and maximise fleet efficiency.
* Ensure planning is coordinated with scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance to avoid operational disruption.
* Work proactively with the Forecast Demand Planner to manage the order book and respond to changing customer behaviours.
* Ensure sufficient gas stock is available for the coming week, planning depot deliveries accordingly.
* Liaise with internal departments including Sales, Customer Services, Engineering, and Site Safety to align planning with wider business needs.
* Maintain the integrity of system data and records.
* Produce weekly and monthly KPI reports as directed by your line manager.
* Adopt a flexible approach to working hours during peak winter months (October–March) and at other times of business need.
What We Are Looking For
Functional
* Proven experience in a transport or logistics planning role, with a track record of managing high volume, time-sensitive delivery schedules.
* Confident computer and application skills, with the ability to get to grips with specialist routing and scheduling software.
* Strong verbal and numerical communication skills with a sharp analytical mind.
* Proven ability to manage priorities and work under pressure in a fast-moving environment.
* Understanding of driver working time regulations (desirable but not essential).
* Understanding of HGV operations and HSE legislation (desirable but not essential).
* Experience with computerised route planning tools (desirable but not essential).
Personal
* Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data quality.
* Calm under pressure with the ability to multi-task and manage competing demands.
* A self-motivated “can do” approach, leading by example and taking ownership of outcomes.
* A genuine team player who builds positive relationships with colleagues across the business.
* Open, honest, and willing to learn and adapt as the business evolves.
The Rewards
* Competitive salary reflective of experience
* Comprehensive benefits package including enhanced pension contribution, private healthcare, and life assurance
* A central role in a business-critical function with real operational impact
* Collaborative team environment with strong support from your line manager and planning colleagues
* Professional development and ongoing training opportunities
* Annual salary reviews
