Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor - 31342
We have two permanent Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor roles available within the Environment Agency. These positions are part of our Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Team in the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B), focusing on driving the decarbonisation of the economy.
The Advisor role involves:
* Supporting the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes, with a focus on specific regimes
* Contributing to the preparation, review, and publication of technical guidance
* Advising on issues during the operation of these regimes
This includes advising government on decarbonisation policies, networking with officials and stakeholders, and producing technical advice to shape Environment Agency positions. A key aspect is monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions, energy, and materials to ensure accurate measurement and reporting.
You will also work on expanding the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) to sectors like maritime and developing regulations for new heat networks under upcoming UK Heat Network Zoning Regulations.
The work is varied and reactive, requiring swift responses to deadlines.
The team leads UK policies to reduce industrial greenhouse gases, including UK ETS, low-carbon industrial clusters, and other environmental schemes. We promote an inclusive, supportive culture that values evidence, expertise, and innovation.
Experience and skills required:
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and encourage diversity considerations
* Experience working across multiple teams with different specialisms
* Understanding of legislation and policy principles
* Creative thinking and excellent communication skills
* Experience with data analysis and supporting persuasive arguments
This role suits a graduate in science, engineering, or environmental sciences (or equivalent experience) with an interest in policy implementation. Experience in monitoring, reporting, and verification is desirable but not essential.
Flexible working arrangements are supported, with some travel and overnight stays expected. The position is based in an EA office, with national scope.
For more information, contact erin.priddey@environment-agency.gov.uk. Interviews will be via MS Teams in early to mid-August, including an assessment exercise.

The Environment Agency is committed to diversity and inclusion, offering flexible working and guaranteed interview policies for disabled applicants.
