SEND 1:1 Learning Support Mentor ASD / ASC, SEMH
Type: Temp‑Perm – via 60‑day trial. Full‑time or part‑time (Mon‑Fri, 9:30–3:30). Location: Weston Super Mare (secondary ages). Start date: February 2026. Salary: £18,000–£22,000 p.a. (£15.38‑£17.95 ph during trial).
Our client is a new and expanding Alternative Education Provision serving primary and secondary‑aged pupils with EHCPs relating to SEMH in Weston‑super‑Mare and surrounding areas. Students stay up to 18 weeks on a full‑time or part‑time transition basis before returning to mainstream or special school. Roles are available as the provision expands.
Responsibilities
Deliver an alternative education curriculum and serve as a positive role model. Recognise the emotional and educational needs of learners, respond to and create appropriate learning activities and opportunities, and adopt an individualised approach for each child. Work with students who may have trauma and ASC/ASD needs, participate in positive behaviour management training (Team Teach/PBM/MAPA/THRIVE) as required, and support flexible working arrangements.
Qualifications & Desired Experience
* Previous experience working with learners who have SEMH, trauma or ASC/ASD.
* Experience helping children overcome barriers and difficult situations.
* Ability to engage parents in supporting children at home, setting boundaries and managing behaviour.
* Willingness to complete training and implement new ideas.
* Passion for working with young people in education.
* Good understanding of effective intervention strategies.
* Commitment to safeguarding and helping students maximise academic and personal opportunities.
* Ability to work within a dynamic and challenging environment.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Training & Progression
The role is temp‑perm from September 2025, with intent for permanent contract after successful induction. Training opportunities, progression possibilities within the organisation, and support from a growing organisation are available.
