Locally Employed Doctor (ST1/2 Level) in Acute Medicine Closing date: 12 June 2026
We are seeking a Locally Employed Doctor (ST1/2 level) to join the Department of Acute Medicine. This is not an approved training position, but the successful candidate will receive:
Named educational supervisor
Induction and bespoke new starter induction pack outlining internal training courses and opportunities available to doctors in these non‑approved training positions
Individual training plan
NHS e‑portfolio
Appraisal at 6 months and individual access to e‑appraisal system
Support towards obtaining an Alternative Certificate confirming achievement of foundation competencies to aid those who wish to access a recognised training position in the future
Main duties
Participate in daily ward rounds with the team and prepare patients for consultant ward rounds
Support the consultant by carrying out their instructions in a timely manner
Make referrals to different specialties and chase them
Medical clerking of patients when required and formulating initial plan with the help of a registrar
Make discharge summaries for patients
Attend medical emergencies in the ward
Participate in departmental teaching and audits
Keep nursing staff informed about patient management and check progress
Update families regarding patient conditions on a regular basis
Supervise medical student work and participate in undergraduate teaching
Participate in appraisal with consultants
Assist registrars in procedures
About us Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust is a busy 849‑bed district general hospital and one of the North West's Regional Cardiothoracic Centres. It hosts an active postgraduate programme of MRCP teaching and offers excellent library facilities. Resuscitation training and medical audit are established within the Trust.
Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent
Full GMC registration
MRCP Part 1 or 2 (preferred)
Skills
Sound basic clinical skills
Competent in the management of medical emergencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in English
Computer literate
Experience
General medical experience
Understanding of the importance of medical research
Previous research experience (desirable)

Professional attitude
Good organisational and time‑management skills
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and admin staff
Ability to establish good working relationships with members of the MDT
Ability to function effectively under pressure

Salary: £54,499 a year pro‑rate plus relevant rota enhancements
