The Role
To provide the National Park Authority with a comprehensive, professional estate management service and expertise in sustainable land management, rural policy, and rural business development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide advice, guidance, and support on sustainable land use and estate management to encourage appropriate and innovative management solutions.
2. Work with the wardens team and support organisational capital works projects delivery and partnerships.
3. Help the Authority build positive relationships with the farming community and other landowners within the National Park to establish effective partnerships for property management.
4. Contribute to the strategic planning process, considering sustainable land management and rural development.
5. Develop capital asset management plans, support events and activities on land, and contribute to new Natural Capital programmes.
6. Promote and raise awareness of the Authority's sustainable land management work externally, build partnerships, and maintain good relations with local communities, external organizations, agencies, and decision-makers.
7. Advise on agricultural, forestry, woodland, and arboriculture matters to Officers and Members, and support Development Control staff to meet legal duties.
8. Provide guidance on land, estate, and building management issues, develop income opportunities, and support site asset record maintenance.
9. Respond to statutory and informal consultations as required.
10. Write Management Plans for land owned, leased, or managed by the Authority, and oversee their implementation, safety, income development, and access improvements.
11. Perform any other duties appropriate to the grade as required by the Head of Estates and Countryside Management or the Executive Team.
Skills and Qualifications
1. An Estate Management or related degree.
2. A qualified member of RICS.
3. Knowledge of land use, land management, environmental issues, conservation, nature recovery, climate change, and sustainable development.
4. Knowledge of agriculture, forestry, and woodland issues.
5. Understanding of current rural policy matters.
6. Understanding of nature capital markets, income opportunities from rural land use, and local markets and supply chains.
7. Experience negotiating contracts, land use agreements, and tenancies.
8. Awareness of capital works programs, permissions, procurement, including common land.
9. Good communication, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, advocacy, persuasion, negotiation, organization, strategic thinking, innovation.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
11. At least 2 years of post-qualification professional experience.
12. Experience in a professional role with land-owning organizations or property consultancy, emphasizing conservation and public access.
13. Current driving licence.
