Job overview
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds and any role-specific criteria.
Applications are invited from newly qualified therapy radiographers to join the Sussex Cancer Centre Radiotherapy team, based in Brighton. Radiotherapy provision for Sussex operates across two hospital sites (Brighton and Eastbourne), with CT facilities and Elekta machines. A High Dose Rate brachytherapy facility is available at the Cancer Centre in Brighton. IELTS score 7 is required for international applicants.
Main duties of the job
The post holder provides professional radiotherapy services within all Sussex Cancer Centre locations, covering planning, simulation, calculation and treatment of cancer patients, and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. Upon gaining experience, the post holder will take responsibility for the daily running of the Linear Accelerator through competency training.
Requirements include advanced clinical knowledge of radiotherapy procedures, tissue tolerances, and reactions to radiation exposure. The post holder practises under current IR(ME)R legislation and will work with a range of complex technical and computerised systems, including:
* Linear accelerators for delivery of radiation treatment
* Computerised patient information and appointment management systems
* Image matching programmes for verification and evaluation during treatment
* QA equipment for daily tolerance checks
* CT scanners and equipment for high dose radiation delivery
* Computerised treatment planning systems

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Use electronic imaging to confirm patient positioning at the start of radiotherapy and during treatment as part of QA protocol.
* Calculate and verify patient position accuracy and adjust positioning based on contour changes, progression or regression of the tumour.
* Escalate for changes in calculation or re-planning via CT/planning if discrepancies arise.
* Assess patient fitness for treatment before each session and refer to a clinician if unfit for treatment.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and involve appropriate disciplines (e.g., dietetics, Macmillan team) as needed.
* Coordinate blood/urine sampling and analysis before treatment; continue or suspend treatment based on results and communicate with the patient and clinician if treatment is suspended.
* Mark patients for daily setup to ensure accurate and reproducible treatment.
* Exercise spatial awareness, visual precision and manual dexterity in handling patients and equipment to ensure safe and accurate beam setup within three millimetres.

* HCPC Registration currently or within 2025 graduation
