We are looking for a high:caliber Design Manager to lead the engineering delivery for one of our most significant large:scale substation projects. This isnt just about overseeing drawings; its about managing the technical heartbeat of a critical infrastructure asset. You will be the bridge between complex electrical engineering, civil constraints, and client expectations.
As the Design Manager, you will take full ownership of the design lifecycle:from initial concept and FEED through to detailed design and construction support. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure that technical solutions are safe, buildable, and fully integrated.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee Primary and Secondary electrical design, ensuring integration with civil and structural elements.
* Resolve technical clashes between HV equipment, protection systems, and site infrastructure.
* Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, DNOs/TSOs, and specialist subcontractors.
* Drive Safety by Design principles, ensuring all outputs meet Scottish Power standards and CDM regulations.
* Ensure design milestones are met to allow for the procurement of long:lead items (Transformers, GIS, etc.).
Requirements:
* A degree in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status preferred).
* Proven track record managing design for large:scale substations (typically 132kV, 275kV, or 400kV).
* Familiarity with BIM workflows and Common Data Environments (CDE).
* The ability to challenge a design choice while maintaining strong relationships with the engineering team.
