Job description
Our Water contractor client is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to be based out of Walsall in a permanent position supporting on Water industry projects.
They are a privately owned civil and infrastructure specialist with considerable work across a number of AMP8 Frameworks.
The Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support to project teams, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and company objectives. They will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.
Projects vary from £200k to £10m+ and you will be essential in driving efficiencies within the scope of work, driving cost efficiency and providing a high standard of commercial analysis. The role will see you demonstrating your commercial acumen daily, by identifying, recording, tracking and realising commercial opportunities, whilst mitigating business risk.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit levels
2. Ensure accurate cash flow reporting takes place
3. Carry out cost management, including forecasting
4. Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans
5. Help ensure that internal commercial processes are adhered to across the business unit
6. Actively seek to improve processes and procedures
7. Help ensure that any main contracts entered into have terms and conditions that are appropriate, with commercial risks identified
8. Ensure that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions
9. Build and maintain good client relationships
10. Be responsible for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting
11. Prepare applications for payment
12. Liaise with the client, client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims and additional payments
13. Contribute towards effective interaction between the Commercial Team and the operational site teams
14. Work with site management to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery and ensure that both are kept in line with the target
15. Share best practices with others and be proactive in advising site teams on costs and management of them

Skills/experience/qualifications
23. Previous experience in the construction industry
24. HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
25. Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of Construction Law
26. Previous experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.
27. Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
28. Have knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.
29. Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
30. Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
31. Ability to work effectively in a team and delegate, but also able to work on own initiative
32. Member of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards
33. CSCS desirable
