Applications from all faiths are welcomed The College is seeking to appoint a well-qualified, high performing and committed individual to the post of Assistant Head of Maths, who will help the Head of Maths lead and inspire a team of highly experienced teachers. You should have a track record of outstanding success and be committed to providing the highest quality education for all students. This post will attract a golden hello one-off payment of £2500 MATHS at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College Maths is a high performing department within our Outstanding College. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual, keen to develop their career in leadership. You will have the drive and enthusiasm to provide a high quality and challenging learning experience for our students whilst also ensuring a supportive and encouraging environment. The Maths department offers a GCSE re-sit programme, A Level Maths and A Level Further and is highly popular with over 800 students. The departments is progressive in terms of its approach with a strong emphasis on encouraging a positive rapport between staff and students in the pursuit of academic success. There is a track record of supporting students to enhance their studies, such as Maths Challenge and support for STEP. There is a friendly and professional atmosphere and a wealth of experience with a strong encouragement to undertake CPD. This is an exciting time to join the Maths department, newly located into purpose-built accommodation and specialist resources.


Duties and responsibilities

* Assistant Management responsibilities: To support the Head of Department Maths and have particular responsibility for an area. The precise responsibilities of this role will be agreed following discussion with the successful applicant.
* To assist the Head of Department in the provision of effective leadership and management to provide outstanding standards of student achievement and attainment.
* To assist the Head of Department to develop, motivate and inspire colleagues within the department in line with the College's Ethos and Mission Statement.
* To pro-actively help lead the department in the provision of an outstanding quality of education as evidenced in all the key performance indicators, especially value added and high grades.
* To assist the Head of Department to lead the department in embracing a varied and effective range of teaching and learning styles appropriate to the post-16 learner through the development of a team culture including the appropriate integration of IT into programmes of study.
* To assist the Head of Department with rigorous monitoring and tracking of the Quality Assurance in the department's teaching, learning and assessment to ensure consistency of provision.
* To assist the Head of Department in the provision of reports as required.
* To be a 'champion of the student' and to assist the Head of Department in the monitoring and improving of student performance.
* To assist the Head of Department to develop and achieve a vibrant, enriching and enjoyable experience for all students within the department.
* To assist the Head of Department to lead on and contribute to activities which publicise and promote the work of the department, including assisting in liaison with partner schools, higher education, employer engagement, examination boards, awarding bodies and other relevant external bodies where appropriate, in order to achieve an effective, proactive and successful working partnership.
* Engage with and contribute to meetings and training as required by the Head of Department
* Ensure the smooth running of the department in the absence of the Head of Department.
* To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a main scale teacher.
* Assist the Head of Department in the support and promotion of staff well-being across the department


Specific responsibilities for this post

* The precise responsibilities of this role will be agreed following discussion with the successful applicant but could involve: Provide rigorous monitoring and tracking of quality assurance for all aspects of a particular area of responsibility under the guidance of the Head of Department.
* Lead on the organisation, administration and analysis of external exams and results including re-sits
* Lead on a area of particular responsibility assessments and administration to ensure college compliance at every level.
* Assist the Head of Department when planning curriculum post January results.
* Lead on teaching, learning and assessment for a particular area of responsibility
* Monitor attendance and progress in a particular area of responsibility and lead on appropriate interventions and support where appropriate
* Co-ordinate the creation and provision of suitable resources for a particular area of responsibility
* Assist the Head of Department to deal with referrals from staff in the department concerning students' attendance or progress,
* Assist the Head of Department in lesson observation and learning walks.
* Order and keep track of resources as required by the Head of Department
* Contribute and/or undertake appraisals of staff who teach on a particular area of responsibility as directed by the Head of Department.


Quality Assurance and Professional Development

* To actively participate in staff development activities.
* To participate in the College appraisal system.
* To contribute to the process of the setting of targets within the department and to work towards their achievement.
* To follow the principles of Rosenshine to embed and further develop effective teaching and learning strategies.
* To contribute to and participate in the College's procedures for lesson observation.
* To maintain accurate and up to date information concerning students and their progress.
* To contribute to effective communication and consultation with parents of students when appropriate. This could include report writing and attendance at Parents' Evenings or other occasions designated by the College.

* To have regard to the principles and values expressed in the College's Mission Statement.
* To demonstrate a commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons in line with College policy
* To have full regard for the College's Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety requirements
* To perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility that may be reasonably assigned by the Principal
