Overview
Based in Cambridge this global organisation with offices around the world is recruiting a Photonics Lead and a Junior Photonics Engineer to accelerate the adoption of innovative photonic technologies into real‑world products. The role involves photonic integrated circuits, nano- and micro‑fabricated optics, nonlinear systems, and emerging fields such as quantum photonics, along with optical design using tools like Zemax.
Key Responsibilities
* Specification, design, fabrication/test and validation of complex PICs or photonic systems.
* Hands‑on photonic design/simulation (Lumerical/Ansys/Synopsys or equivalent) and PIC layout (Synopsys/Luceda/Nazca).
* Engagement with the photonics ecosystem (fabs, packaging, test).
* Deep knowledge of PIC platforms (SiPh/SiN/InP), integration methods and test strategies.
* Proof of ability to lead engineers, make technical trade‑offs and collaborate across disciplines.
* Experience in photonic/optical compute technologies.
* Experience in high‑speed PICs for datacom.
* Experience in free‑space optical communication.
Qualifications
* PhD in Physics, Electronics or a semiconductor‑related technology.
* High commercial competence alongside technical knowledge; engagement with clients will be part of the role.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and delivering next‑generation photonic and optoelectronic systems.
* Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts to stakeholders.
