Industry Support Officer position based at Regent Point, Gosforth within the Research and Development (R&D) Office of the Trust, in the Newcastle Joint Research Office (NJRO). You will support researchers across The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Faculty of Medical Science within the University of Newcastle, focusing on feasibility, local site setup processes (including support services, costing and contract negotiations, resource allocation), and coordinating with the Trust Industry Manager to act as the local interface between Investigators, Industry, NHS sites, and to ensure commercial clinical research is supported consistently and reliably.
The role requires exceptional organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, adaptability to change, and the ability to work as part of a team to support organizational growth.

Main duties
 * Support feasibility and actively facilitate the coordination of local site setup processes (including support services, costing and contract negotiations, resource allocation).
 * Support the Trust Industry Manager to provide the local interface between Investigators, Industry, NHS sites, and to ensure that the Trust supports commercial clinical research in a consistent and reliable manner.
 * Assist in feasibility, setup, and monitoring activities as part of a wider team.
What you will have
 * A degree or equivalent experience in clinical research
 * Advanced knowledge of clinical trial setup and governance frameworks (e.g. ICH GCP, Research Governance Framework)
 * Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
 * Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
 * Advanced IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office
 * Experience working independently and managing multiple projects

Job description – responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Industry Support Officer to join our Research & Development team. This role supports the delivery of commercial clinical research across the Trust, ensuring efficient feasibility assessments, site setup and performance monitoring. You will act as a key liaison between investigators, commercial sponsors, NHS services and national research networks, contributing to the Trust’s reputation for excellence in clinical research. The main duties include:
 * Feasibility & Site Identification: Coordinate local feasibility processes for industry-sponsored trials, including investigator identification and resource assessment. Manage Expressions of Interest and confirm site capability to national research networks.
 * Trial Setup & Coordination: Support the setup of commercial trials, including contract negotiation, costing, and NHS permission processes. Work with support services and the R&D team to ensure timely trial initiation.
 * Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track recruitment and performance metrics; provide regular updates and reports to the Trust Industry Manager, NIHR RDN, and other stakeholders.
 * Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a visible point of contact for commercial sponsors, CROs and NIHR RDN staff; communicate information across internal and external teams.
 * Policy & Service Development: Contribute to local and regional research strategies, policies and procedures; ensure compliance with national regulations and Trust guidelines.
 * Education & Training: Deliver training on commercial research processes, including trial costing and setup; maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, frameworks and Trust procedures.
 * Information & Data Management: Use and maintain research databases and reporting tools; produce documentation and reports using Microsoft Office and other software.
