Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Administrative Assistant to join our Chemical Pathology team on a job share basis. The role supports Consultant Clinical Scientists, Lead Biomedical Scientist, and other senior staff in delivering high‑quality diagnostic services within Pathology.
Job Type and Hours
Job share: 16 hours Monday‑Thursday afternoons and 12 hours Tuesday and Friday.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to senior staff within the Clinical Chemistry Department.
* Manage electronic diaries, arrange meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and handle correspondence.
* Maintain accurate electronic and paper filing systems.
* Process clinic letters and book/update patient details using laboratory and hospital systems.
* Type reports and documentation, and extract information for audits.
* Liaise with patients, relatives, clinical staff, and external laboratories, handle telephone enquiries and communicate laboratory results in accordance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
* Organise specimen dispatch to referral laboratories and prepare related documentation.
* Check invoices, maintain departmental records, and undertake required training to support service delivery.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in a secretarial or administrative role within a clinical or laboratory setting.
* Strong audio‑typing skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant IT systems.
* Team player with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities.
