Contract Design Engineer - SolidWorks IR35 Status: OutHourly Rate - Circa £40 DOEContract Term - 5 MonthsLocation - In office at Melksham We're excited to be supporting a globally recognised leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance protective equipment for military, law enforcement, and first responder applications. With a strong heritage in advanced engineering and innovation, the company specialises in delivering critical safety solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.Due to a short-term increase in project workload, the team is seeking a confident and experienced Contract SolidWorks Design Engineer to support ongoing jig and fixture design work.Responsibilities, but are not limited to
* Creating and updating 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks
* Designing and developing jigs and fixtures for assembly, measurement, and testing applications
* Applying surfacing techniques where required to accurately model complex geometries and part interfaces
* Producing detailed technical drawings to support manufacturing and assembly processes
* Collaborating with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure design intent and functionality
* Conducting design reviews and implementing feedback to improve product performance and manufacturability
* Maintaining accurate CAD data and ensuring design documentation is kept up to date and version-controlled
* Supporting continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for design optimisation
Experiences required
* Proven experience using SolidWorks for both 3D modelling and 2D technical drawing creation
* Previous involvement in jig and fixture design, ideally for assembly, testing, or measurement applications
* Strong understanding of surfacing tools within SolidWorks for complex part and surface modelling
* Solid background in mechanical design within a manufacturing or engineering environment
* Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings to industry standards, including GD&T
* SC Clearance is advantageous
