Job Description:
This role offers the opportunity for a qualified lawyer to work with recognised market leaders in catastrophic injury work within our Complex Injury Claims Team. The Lead Lawyer handles high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury claims, including brain injury, spinal injury, amputation, and fatal claims, often valued in the millions. These cases are managed to the highest standards.
We seek an ambitious individual with solid experience in personal injury law, ideally between NQ and 5 years PQE, eager to specialise further. Experience with indemnity, liability, and complex medical issues is preferred, with excellent attention to detail essential. The role involves engaging with senior claims handlers and assisting in activities to develop Keoghs' profile. This is a great opportunity to advance your PI career in a complex, high-value legal area.
This is a full-time position based in our Newcastle office.
Key Accountabilities
You will work as part of a team managing each case from receipt of papers to resolution, dealing with liability and quantum aspects. Responsibilities include:
* Managing a caseload of complex injury claims, typically valued over £1m, alongside the Lead Lawyer.
* Communicating with insurer clients, handling queries, and providing updates.
* Analyzing extensive quantum evidence, preparing chronologies, and identifying anomalies.
* Using your knowledge of injury symptomology to identify issues in medical records and instruct experts.
* Analyzing liability evidence and identifying gaps.
* Drafting technical advice on all aspects of claim handling, including indemnity, liability, quantum, and causation.
* Proactively planning next steps and discussing strategies with the Lead Lawyer.
* Interviewing witnesses, drafting statements, and liaising with involved parties.
* Drafting pleadings and applications, instructing counsel, and attending conferences, mediations, and court hearings.
* Using the firm's Case Management System effectively.
* Delegating tasks to Legal Assistants or Paralegals and supporting their development.
* Ensuring compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
We are looking for:
* Qualified solicitor or legal executive with 0-5 years PQE.
* Proven experience in personal injury, handling multi-track cases.
* Experience with indemnity, liability, and complex medical issues.
* Critical thinking and quantum analysis skills.
* Good advocacy, communication, and client care skills.
* Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
* Strong knowledge of insurance principles.
