Job Purpose
GCP Cloud Engineer with extensive Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise, and deep knowledge of traditional hosting models (physical, virtualised, hybrid, converged). Responsible for delivering strategic infrastructure initiatives and maintaining service availability with accountability for annual cloud budgets exceeding £10 million. Lead role in the RM Cloud Centre of Excellence, building relationships with stakeholders and driving value from cloud technologies.
Engage with Senior Infrastructure Managers, Architects (Enterprise, Solution, Cyber, Infrastructure and Data), and align business solutions with published cloud vendor best practices within the RM technology landscape. Identify improvements to enhance service availability and reduce repeat incidents.
Collaborate across Technology Portfolios, Suppliers/Partners, Cyber, Service Management, and broader teams to ensure well-architected cloud services and effective incident response and root cause analysis.
Contribute to FinOps culture and cost controls within RM technology and broader business functions.
Key Accountabilities
* Technical authority for GCP platforms and tenant-level management; ensure cloud resources are used in line with Cloud Adoption Framework.
* Manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts in a central Git repository for core environmental configuration changes.
* Lead IaC design, publish and maintain Terraform code via Azure DevSecOps pipelines for core deployments.
* Drive automation to enable self-service for platform and product engineering; promote product-based DevSecOps.
* Define, publish, deploy and maintain cloud blueprints, guidelines, standards, patterns, and policy to drive consistency across Azure cloud technologies.
* Participate in the Cloud Centre of Excellence and collaborate with other teams to define a detailed Cloud Roadmap; align resources and budget.
* Contribute to a cross-functional FinOps culture; enable cost controls for cloud resources.
* Identify and report risks and issues affecting service performance with severity and likelihood assessment.
* Develop recommendations and mitigations, including cost implications.
* Support professional accreditation, audit and compliance activities.
* Build relationships across Technology & Data Design Authority; lead workshops and drive value from cloud technologies.
* Manage professional development and stay updated on GCP technology trends.
* Engage stakeholders to challenge and support decision-making; contribute to strategic discussions.
* Contribute to Infrastructure strategy, roadmaps, and monthly governance reporting to technology executives.
* Ensure accurate CMDB discovery and reflection of RM GCP resources.
