We are looking for an experienced and people-focused Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of talented software engineers. What You'll Be Doing
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, supporting performance, career growth, and wellbeing
* Plan, prioritise, and deliver engineering work to agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards
* Promote and ensure adoption of best practices across the SDLC, including coding standards, testing, security, and documentation
* Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
* Own technical delivery for assigned products or platforms, managing risks, dependencies, and technical debt
* Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and ways of working (e.g. Agile, CI/CD)
* Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality engineering talent
* Ensure compliance with relevant UK regulations, data protection requirements, and internal governance standards
What We're Looking For
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
* Professional certifications in Agile, Scrum, or software delivery (e.g. Scrum Master, SAFe) – desirable
* AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer) – desirable
* Management or leadership training qualifications – advantageous
Essential Experience
* Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in a commercial environment
* Strong hands‑on background in modern software development, including:
o Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind
o Backend: Python, RESTful APIs
* Experience delivering scalable, reliable, and secure systems in cloud‑based and distributed environments
* Extensive experience designing, deploying, and operating solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and VPC
* Strong working knowledge of GitHub, including pull request workflows, branching strategies, and CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions)
* Experience using engineering and operational tooling such as Jira, Confluence, PagerDuty, or similar platforms
* Solid understanding of Agile and Lean delivery methodologies and modern DevOps practices
* Experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams
* Good understanding of software quality, security, observability, and performance best practices
Desirable Experience
* Familiarity with Azure, Docker, and Terraform
* Knowledge of UK data protection principles (e.g. UK GDPR) and relevant employment practices

* Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum, depending on experience
