Vehicle Safety Laboratories – Test Engineer – Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Location: Gaydon, Warwick, UK.
Salary: £44,000 – £52,000.
In this hands‑on role, you will arrange and conduct component, system and full‑vehicle tests to support vehicle development, CAE and homologation activities. You will work with quasi‑static and dynamic test rigs, assessing systems such as pedestrian impact, interior head impact, seats, body and chassis structures, restraints, sensing systems and climatic airbag testing. The role also includes analysing test results, producing clear sign‑off reports, and collaborating closely with Safety Delivery teams, Technical Centres and external partners.
What To Expect
* Work closely with Technical Centres, Safety Delivery teams and the team leader to define testing requirements and deliver high‑quality test services.
* Create, manage and deliver robust test timing plans, ensuring alignment with programme milestones and responding effectively to changing priorities.
* Carry out component, system and full‑vehicle testing in strict accordance with internal procedures and external regulatory standards.
* Represent the department and JLR at external meetings, technical forums and working groups as required.
* Produce clear, accurate and timely sign‑off documentation to support homologation and regulatory approval activities.
* Design, adapt and modify test rigs and fixtures to meet new legislation, updated test protocols and evolving programme needs.
What You’ll Need
* Background in Mechanical Engineering with a strong grasp of core engineering principles and fundamentals.
* Sound knowledge of instrumentation, including correct application, set‑up and principles of operation.
* Proven experience working in a test laboratory environment, ideally within safety, durability or development testing.
* Ability to identify system and component failure modes and define further investigative work or revised test approaches to support design improvements.
* Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage effectively across technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* A self‑motivated, flexible team player with a clear focus on delivering a high‑quality, reliable testing service.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including willingness to support the required shift pattern and contract work.

Working patterns: Two patterns are available – a standard Monday to Friday day role, and a double day shift pattern (approximately Monday to Thursday 6 am–2 pm / 2 pm–10 pm, Friday 6 am–12 pm / 12 pm–6 pm). The shift pattern attracts a 16.6 % shift allowance.
