TheSpecialist Palliative Care Team is a health and social care team that providesan expert clinical and social care service for patients with challenging andcomplex life limiting diagnoses and their families. All senior team members actas clinical or social care experts, leaders, and educators for their serviceareas. The team provides a service in all care settings across the North EastLincolnshire locality.

Main duties of the job

Job Title: Assistant Social Welfare Officer

Department: Palliativeand end of life care

Hours: 18.75hours per week, permanent.

Youwill be required to work between hours of9-5 pm weekdays, weekend. Bankholiday working is not required.

Range 4 (£26,416 - £28,182)pro rata per annum - you will be appointed on a fixed pointwithin the salary range.

The social welfare team is a small friendlybusy team working with patients and families to maximise their income,alleviate poverty and enable best quality of life. The team provide support toaccess benefits, apply for grants and advice with issues of housing, funeralpoverty, and benefit appeals.

If you have a relevant degree, recentexperience in a social welfare role oradvisory post, are a team worker,enthusiastic about supporting individuals to maximise their income and have agood knowledge of the benefits system,funeral poverty, excellent IT skills and the ability to complete complexcalculations this post could be for you?

You will need experience and the ability tonetwork with other agencies voluntary, statutory and charities. You will also contribute to the developmentof national agendas through the work of Macmillan Cancer support and Integratedcare systems locally.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Minimum Level 3 qualification in information, Advice and guidance or equivalent


Experience

* Recent demonstrable experience in a social welfare advisory post or similar.
* Experience of working in partnership with both statutory and voluntary agencies
* Experience of working with palliative patients, their carers, and families
* Experience of working in the community and making home visits
* Experience of preparing appeals, for tribunals and representing clients


Other

* Able to transport self and equipment around the North East Lincolnshire area.
* Physically able to visit people in their own homes


Skills & Knowledge

* Up to date comprehensive knowledge of the full range of benefits and charitable funds and a thorough understanding of welfare benefits legislation.
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of the potential complex financial concerns faced by people with a cancer and/or palliative care diagnosis.
* Effective interpersonal, diplomacy and negotiating skills applicable to a variety of settings and with a broad cross section of the public.
* Networking and liaison skills and ability to develop effective working relationships with partner agencies and other appropriate organizations.
* Able to respond to conflicting priorities.
* Effective IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Ability to work autonomously and make decisions within delegated authority.
* Able to actively and positively contribute to team development.
* Numeracy and literacy skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
* Ability to complete complex calculations.
* Ability to demonstrate commitment to CPG core values
* Knowledge and understanding funeral poverty.
* Recent experience of audit
* Knowledge of Macmillan Cancer Supports services and policies that are directly relevant to people affected by cancer.
* Recent experience of participation in service development projects
