Reed Education are working in partnership with a large, well-established SEN school in the Morecambe area to recruit a full-time British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to start in September 2026.This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and experienced BSL professional to support a young person within a specialist school setting.Job Description:The successful candidate will be working 1:1 with a Year 7 boy who is Deaf and uses BSL to communicate, and who also has ADHD and learning difficulties.The role will involve:
* Interpreting whole-class lessons using BSL
* Supporting the pupil’s communication and access to learning throughout the school day
* Working collaboratively as part of the wider classroom and SEN team within a large SEN school
The Role:
* Monday to Friday
* 8:30am – 3:30pm
* Term time only
* Long-term/permanent
Essential Requirements:
* Minimum BSL Level 4 qualification (This must be from an official, reputable training provider and is essential)
* Clear DBS (or willingness to obtain one prior to starting)
* Reliability and commitment to the role
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils with additional needs
Desirable Experience:
* Experience working 1:1 with Deaf children
* Experience supporting children with additional needs, including ADHD and learning difficulties
* Previous experience in a school or care setting
