Summary of what the candidate must have to apply:
* Strong procurement or category management background within haulage, waste disposal or similar service-based categories
* Proven tendering experience, including running end-to-end competitive processes
* Demonstrable haulage rate negotiation experience and contract management capability
* Experience managing third-party subcontractors providing transport or disposal services
* Understanding of waste regulations, compliance and environmental standards
* Proficient negotiation, supplier management, data analysis and commercial skills
* Degree in Business, Supply Chain or similar, or CIPS (or working towards)
The role:
You will manage the haulage and waste disposal categories, focusing solely on third-party subcontracted transport and treatment services. The work covers strategic category planning, tendering, commercial negotiation, supplier relationship management, and supporting business units with compliant, cost-effective solutions across road, rail, sea and air freight movements. This role directly supports Veolia's operational needs and wider ecological transformation goals.
Key accountabilities:
* Lead full tendering cycles for haulage and disposal services
* Negotiate rates, commercial terms, fuel mechanisms and demurrage
* Manage subcontractor performance, compliance and risk
* Develop category strategies across multiple waste streams – hazardous, non-hazardous, inert and specialist
* Track category performance using KPIs and spend data
* Work closely with internal stakeholders and Procurement Business Partners
* Maintain alignment with Group Procurement strategy
* Drive innovation, sustainability, cost savings and continuous improvement
* Manage and develop a Category Specialist as required
Requirements/key criteria:
* Relevant degree or CIPS (or working towards)
* Strong category management and procurement experience
* Proven haulage rate negotiation and contract management background
* Experience working with subcontracted service providers
* Knowledge of waste management regulations and compliance
* Strong analytical, commercial and stakeholder management skills
* Understanding of sustainability and ESG requirements
Desirable:
* MCIPS or CMILT
* Experience in waste, environmental services or hazardous waste
* Experience with freight forwarding or international transport
* Strong communication skills and ability to work under pressure
