A well-respected and inclusive 11–18 secondary school in Mansfield is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of History to join its established Humanities faculty. This is a full-time position within a school known for its strong pastoral systems, clear expectations and commitment to high-quality teaching. History is a popular subject across the school, with strong engagement at Key Stage 3 and healthy uptake at GCSE. The department is valued for its structured curriculum, thoughtful approach to historical enquiry and emphasis on developing confident, articulate students. The Role You will teach History across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach KS5 for candidates with appropriate experience. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build students’ understanding of chronology, causation, significance and interpretation. At Key Stage 3, lessons focus on developing strong foundational knowledge alongside key historical skills such as source analysis, extended writing and structured debate. Students are encouraged to think critically about the past and make connections between historical periods and the modern world. At GCSE, teaching balances deep subject knowledge with clear exam preparation. The department places strong emphasis on writing skills, confident use of evidence and exam technique, supported by regular assessment and targeted intervention. You will be encouraged to contribute your own subject interests and expertise while working within a shared curriculum framework that supports consistency and reduces unnecessary workload. The History Department The History department is a collaborative and supportive team with a strong culture of shared planning and professional dialogue. Schemes of work, assessments and core resources are centrally developed and reviewed regularly, ensuring clarity and progression across year groups.
