The Ministry of Defence’s Defence Business Services (DBS) is seeking an Operational Support & MI Manager (HEO) to join the Veterans Services Support Team. You’ll play a key role in delivering analytical insights and performance reporting that underpin vital decisions for War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Schemes.

As an Operational Support & MI Manager (HEO), you will use analytical tools and methodologies to measure and improve the performance of Veterans Services operations. You'll generate reports, dashboards, and scenario modelling that inform operational decisions, workforce planning, and policy development.

This role aligns with the Government Digital and Data (DDaT) framework. The Operational Support & MI Manager (HEO) draws elements from Business Analyst and Data Analyst capability at the Working level, and is ideal for candidates developing their career in digital data and technology.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of operational data on AFCS and WPS claims and appeals.
* Produce weekly/monthly dashboards and management information reports to track performance against KPIs and service level agreements.
* Use structured approaches to analyse business problems and support data-driven decision-making.
* Run and adapt SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from operational systems.
* Build, maintain and share visual dashboards using tools such as Excel and/or Power BI to tell clear performance stories.
* Present data and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, adapting your message for different audiences.
* Support workforce planning by using forecasting models and scenario planning.
* Assist in the development of business cases using relevant data and impact assessments.
* Continuously identify and implement improvements to data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.

Skills And Experience Required

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate the following DDaT-aligned capabilities at the Working level:

Technical And Analytical Skills

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, charts, formulae and VBA).
* Experience using SQL to extract, transform and analyse structured data.
* Understanding of data visualisation principles and experience in developing charts/dashboards.
* Ability to apply appropriate statistical and analytical techniques to organisational problems.

Business and Systems Analysis

* Ability to analyse business goals and operational data to support decision-making.
* Experience contributing to business case development through evidence-based options analysis.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

* Skilled at communicating technical findings to non-technical audiences.
* Comfortable facilitating discussions in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience building and maintaining stakeholder relationships across business areas.

Data Ethics and Governance

* Awareness of data privacy risks and ability to follow data governance standards.

Desirable Skills

* Experience working with SharePoint or similar collaborative tools.
* Interest in digital product/service development or agile delivery methodologies.
* Experience leading or supervising small teams.
