Overview
This is an exciting time to join the Trust as we develop our elective site at Ashford Hospital, aiming to create a state-of-the-art centre of excellence for planned surgical procedures. We are looking for a Consultant in Anaesthesia to join our team of over 40 consultants and 12 specialty doctors in a friendly and flexible department. There is an on-call commitment with a 3% supplement; each session equals 1.25 PAs. The job plan is across St Peter's Hospital and Ashford Hospital cross sites.

The department includes a multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, management and support staff, supported by Staff grades, Associate Specialists, Middle Grade Fellows and Trainee Anaesthetists. Interviews for this post will be held in person on 10/12/2025.
Responsibilities
The main duties for this role include:
* Deliver clinical, educational and managerial services to a high professional standard at Consultant level.
* Work with existing consultants and the multidisciplinary team to provide a high-quality, well-led service for Ashford & St Peter's patients, including diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management in line with Trust policies.
* Provide direct clinical care to patients, contributing to clinical decision-making and sharing workload appropriately.
* Develop the clinical leadership team and contribute to teaching, audits, governance and research as part of a multidisciplinary workforce.
* Participate in professional training and supervision of junior medical staff; teaching certification verification may be required.
* Support recruitment, appraisal, development and mentoring within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Undertake other duties appropriate for a Consultant as required by the department.

Job description and requirements
The postholder will contribute to the development of the clinical leadership team and provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the department. Responsibilities include pre-operative assessment, consultant-delivered perioperative care, involvement in local and national audits (including NELA), support for the Resuscitation Department and Cardiac Catheterisation Lab, and flexible work arrangements as negotiated.
* Continuing responsibility for patient care and safe handover
* Engagement with patients outside the department and prompt input for colleagues in other specialties
* Clinical leadership to improve patient experience and deliver high-quality care
* Education, research, audit and clinical governance activities with a multidisciplinary team
* Teaching and supervision of medical and non-medical staff; verification of teaching certification where required
* Recruitment, appraisal, development and mentoring within the team
* Undertake other duties appropriate for a Consultant
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within 6 months of interview
Experience:
* Ability to provide high-quality elective and emergency anaesthesia care for adults and children
* Ability to provide direct anaesthetic clinical care
