Overview
An exciting opportunity to join our team of cancer counsellors at ESNEFT. We are looking for a motivated and experienced counsellor to offer therapeutic support to cancer patients and their relatives. This role is 34 hours per week across 4 or 5 days, based in the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre at Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals. You will work a mix of on-site days and other time from home, with regular outreach clinics in Clacton and telephone support from home.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team, including counsellors, clinical nurse specialists, doctors, information staff and volunteers.
* Facilitate education, clinical supervision and reflective practice to cancer services staff; raise awareness of the benefits of counselling to other health professionals.
* Lead on client bookings and liaise with Wellbeing centre staff regarding room bookings.
* Manage administrative duties, record keeping and data collection/analysis related to the role.
* Demonstrate flexibility, good organisational and problem-solving skills; prioritise workload and work collaboratively to continually evaluate and improve services.
* Work independently and provide telephone support; contribute to outreach activities and on-site clinics as required.
Location and Hours
34 hours per week across 4 or 5 days. Based at the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre, Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals. Typically at least 2 days each week at Colchester (Monday and Tuesday) and 1 day in Ipswich (Wednesday or Friday). Other time may be worked from home.
Responsibilities and Environment
Regular outreach clinics are held in Clacton; counsellors may also provide telephone support from home.
Qualifications and Experience
* Previous experience as a counsellor, ideally in a secondary care setting.
* BACP accreditation or working towards accreditation with substantial counselling experience and time-limited work.
* Ability to support cancer patients and their loved ones who may present with trauma, grief and loss, and to manage ethical dilemmas in this area.
